Involved
Emmanuel's commitment to missions is expressed through praying, giving, and going. Our church budget includes about 17% (about $85,000 in the 2005 budget) for local and global missions causes. In addition, we promote special mission offerings to further support missions causes. In the past year, we received and distributed more than $14,600 for these special offerings for the International Mission Board, the North American Mission Board, and the Northwest Baptist Convention. Our Missions Team also distributes over $6000 per year to various individual and group mission trips.
Each year, our church family is also involved in various ways of going on mission around the world. Our university students are exemplary in their mission involvement. Dozens of them go on Spring break and summer mission projects through their campus Christian organizations. Our youth group is involved each year in trips such as World Changers. There are also many adults who answer the call to missions to places such as Venezuela , China , India , Mexico , and Africa.
We believe it is every Christian's responsibility to be on mission, sharing the message of hope that only comes through a relationship with Jesus Christ. If you would like more information about how you can be involved in being involved in missions or to request support, click on one of the links at the top of the page.
Adults on Mission
In June, 15 people from Pullman traveled to Bocono, Venezuela for a medical mission trip. A pediatrician, as well as several nurses and a pharmacy student were part of the team. We conducted children's clinics, mostly in rural areas around the city. Additional team members assisted in the clinics, did crafts, games and stories with the waiting children and families, and assisted the local church people in the spiritual counseling area. In all, 80 adults and many children made first-time confessions of faith in Jesus as a result of the clinics. (back to top)

COSTA RICA (Summer 2006): Ben & Heidi Harrison (Campus Crusade)
Our time in Costa Rica was a time of trial, challenge, and growth. We moved to the heart of San Jose , the capital of Costa Rica , population 2.4 million. Although only about a 10 minute walk from the University of Costa Rica campus, where we were doing most of our outreach, we had to walk to and from campus in groups because petty crime like mugging is so prevalent. After dark, the girls wouldn't go out of our hostel without at least a couple guys. Although many of us did not speak much Spanish, we were able to make some great contacts among the students studying English – they wanted to talk to us in English and we wanted to talk to them about Jesus. Some students were very open to the Gospel, others were very closed. Overall, the project saw 7 students pray to receive Christ and many very open to pursuing a relationship with Christ and staying involved with the on-campus movement down there. Although Heidi and I struggled with the ‘random evangelism' aspect of project, something that is neither one of our gifting, we felt God's heart for the lost there – both on the campus and on the streets – and came back passionate about pursing God's call and direction in our lives. We have currently moved to Portland , Oregon where I (Ben) will be starting at Western Seminary this winter. Heidi is teaching middle school in a tough, low-income neighborhood in SE Portland . Thank you so much for your past support and please continue to pray for us as we pursue Christ and his plan for our world.
RIJEKA, CROATIA: Sunny Shervey (Campus Crusade)
I am living in Rijeka, Croatia for one year working with Svaki Student which means Every Student and is the Eastern European name for Campus Crusade. I graduated from WSU in May of last year, and the more I thought about graduation, and my future career, the more I felt certain that God was calling me to serve Him. I had no idea what the meant, or what that would look like, but it brought me to Rijeka.
I will be here for one year with five other teammates; two men, and three other women. We are pioneering a college ministry at the University of Rijeka campus. Our daily activities vary, but in general they consist of going onto campus to meet new students, striking up spiritual conversations, introducing students to Christ, and following up with students the team met last year. Because this is a brand new ministry, we are starting from the very bottom, and most of our focus is on meeting students. We have large outreaches planned every other Wednesday. Each outreach is very different, as we try to meet the needs of every student group on campus. It is our hope that in three to five years there will be enough Croatian students involved and leading the ministry that we would eventually quit sending teams to Rijeka, and that Croatian students and staff would completely run the ministry. Our team would love it if you could pray for boldness as we meet new students, and that all of our conversations and interactions with students would point to Christ. Thank you for your support and prayers. If you would like to e-mail me, or receive my monthly news updates and prayer requests please feel to send me a message; sunny_shervey@hotmail.com.(back to top)
Youth on Mission
Objectives
Reach youth who need the gospel with the gospel, and who need discipleship with discipleship. I believe discipleship should include instruction on how to grow as a Christian, share one’s faith and understand doctrine. We should help the youth understand not only what they believe but also why they believe it.
Lead youth to enjoy benefits of fellowship with their Christian peers.
To see a core of leaders emerge among our youth who are passionate about the spiritual vitality of our ministry and who are committed and responsible participants in its planning and implementation.
Help youth develop positive relationships with adult Christians.
