Church History
Founded in Pullman as a mission of Trinity Baptist Church (Moscow, ID) in 1968, Emmanuel organized as a church in 1969 with about 50 charter members. We received critical financial help from the Home Mission Board (now North American Mission Board) of the Southern Baptist Convention in the launching of the church. We began as part of a project to plant new churches in 500 strategic cities and towns across the nation. We worshiped at the first building on Ritchie St., then at Pullman High School for six years, and since 1988 at the current property on Sunnymead Way.
To restore the relationship with mankind, God chose to send His Son Jesus who lived a sinless life on earth and voluntarily paid for our sin by dying on the cross as our substitute. Jesus was fully God and fully man in an eternally unique way. His death accomplishes salvation for all who receive grace by trusting in Him alone. God raised him again to life and he is the only mediator between us and God the Father. He will return to earth to consummate history.
What We Believe
We believe there is one true and living God existing in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God created humans perfect and free to make choices. They chose to disobey their Creator. Turning away from God, humanity fell into sin. All of the suffering and evil in the world is because of this sin. Even though we have turned away from God, God still loves all people and wants our lives to be full of joy and peace. Believers are people who accept that Jesus Christ is God's Son, who believe that Jesus died for their sins and rose from the dead, and who allow Christ to be Lord of their lives. Together they form the church, which is called Christ's body on earth, and which has a responsibility to continue Christ's work. Believers receive guidance from the Bible and from the teachings and example of Christ; and they receive encouragement and power from God's Holy Spirit. In our essential beliefs, we have unity. In our non-essential beliefs, we have liberty. In all our beliefs, we show love. (Ephesians 4:4-6; Romans 14; 1 Corinthians 13:1-2)

Southern Baptist Affiliation
Emmanuel Baptist Church is an autonomous local church that voluntarily associates with the Lewis-Clark Baptist Association (about 11 churches), the Northwest Baptist Convention (about 430 churches), and the Southern Baptist Convention (about 43,000 churches). We voluntarily and joyfully contribute financially to the work of all three organizations through percentage-based budget allocations. We also promote three special mission offerings per year, for regional, North American, and international missions.
